rules of play

1 Objective To get the ball in the opposing team’s hole (and come up with your own tricks to get it there)! The first team or player to 11 goals wins.

2 Set-up Teams are set up according to their size and colour in the row of holes as marked on the playing board.

3 Move or Shoot Shoot to see who goes first. Whoever lands closest to the line starts! The winner chooses to either move a peg or shoot the ball. If you choose to move, move the number of spots any which way (except diagonal) and make sure to coordinate with the number on the player. If you choose to shoot, shots may be taken from anywhere on the board behind or on your end zone line.

*Players may rotate the board to get a better vantage point on a shot. If the ball moves on rotation it returns to its original position.

4 Ricochet To keep possession, pass the ball by flicking it to your own team in a forward direction only. As long as you continue to hit your own team’s pegs, possession is kept. If the ball hits any of your opponents pegs, possession changes hands and the ball remains in its settled position.

The ball may ricochet off of the opposing teams pegs and into the goal as long as it hits one of the shooting team’s players first. Also, make sure you don’t hit the same peg twice or you forfeit your turn.

5 Goals A goal is when the ball enters the opposing teams hole. The shooting team then gets a point and play changes hands. If you score on your own goal, the point goes to your opponent. To score, the ball may:

1. Go directly in
2. Ricochet off the shooting team’s pegs and in
3. Ricochet off the shooting team’s pegs followed by the opposing team’s pegs and in.

6 Movement & Speed Players can move pegs in any direction according to their ‘speed’ (the number on the peg) either horizontally or vertically. Pegs may not be moved diagonally. If a hole is occupied by the ball or a peg you must go around. Jumping the ball or a peg is out of the question!

Player Strengths
Large: 1 space at a time
Medium: 2 spaces at a time
Small: 3 spaces at a time

7 In & Out of Play If the ball goes off the board, the other team gains possession and shoots from anywhere behind their end zone line. The ball may leave the board into the air and is played from where it lands back on the board.

If there’s a goal or the ball lands out of play, the opposing team takes possession and may either move or shoot.

If the ball flips sides, play continues with the ball in the same orientation. The ball may be flipped deliberately. New play always begins with the ball on its flat side.

8 Fouls If a peg is knocked out if its spot, possession changes hands and the fouled’ peg gets placed back in its original (marked) starting position. If you knock out your own peg, it is placed in its original (marked) position and play changes hands.

9 Capturing You may capture an opponent’s pegs by taking its place in the exact amount of spaces as aa given peg’s speed rating (1, 2 or 3 spaces). Once captured, the peg is removed from play. To recover a captured peg, the opposing team must reach the opponent’s end zone line. The recovered peg is placed back into its starting position. Use the rescue wisely, as you only get one per game.

10 No cheating. For real.
